League 4: Dropped TE Kevin Boss and added RB Chris Perry. It’s obvious that Eli Manning is not going to target Boss much, since he still seems to prefer heaving who-wants-it? prayers into triple coverage. Perry’s probably not guaranteed to get a full workload — after all, Kenny Watson is still on the roster and Marvin Lewis is an indecisive nincompoop — but running backs are just too valuable in this league to justify keeping a tight end who won’t see many scoring opportunities.

Key Matchups

League 1

QB Tom Brady vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Uncle Herm generally puts competent defenses together, but there’s no such thing as a competent defense against Tom Brady — even the Giants can’t stop him now, since the cornerstone of their team is out for the year. The loss of Jared Allen will sting, and Brady has a good chance to lead most leagues in points after tomorrow.

RB Selvin Young vs. Oakland Raiders: Everyone knows the deal with the Raiders — you can’t pass against them due to the presence of Nnamdi freaking Asomugha. What you do is run the ball right at them. Seriously, they can’t stop the run at all because their front seven is built almost exclusively for pass rushing. Backed by a coaching staff that usually knows what it’s doing, Young should have a very solid day.

League 2

QB Derek Anderson vs. Dallas Cowboys: If Terence Newman can’t go, expect Anderson to test the newly-reinstated Galaga Jones early and often. Justin insists that Arkanoid Jones can still be an elite corner — this will be a good test of that theory, since Anderson should have all day to throw even against a monstrous pass rusher like DeMarcus Ware. I expect a pretty good game from Anderson, but that’s more due to his protection and weaponry than his actual talent at quarterback.

Vikings D vs. Green Bay Packers: This will be an interesting matchup. There are definitely easier defenses to make your first career start against, so we’ll see what Aaron Rodgers is made of tomorrow. The Vikes are pegged for about 4 sacks and a pick, while giving up 21 points. That’s not too bad for a trip to Lambeau to open the season. We’ll see if that projection holds up — I’m optimistic.

League 3

RB Michael Turner vs. Detroit Lions: If Turner’s any good at all, we’ll see it tomorrow. Ernie Sims is pretty good, but last I checked a defense consists of 11 guys, and Detroit just doesn’t have much talent at the other 10 positions. The Falcons suck, there’s no doubt about that, but Turner has no excuse to not go for 100+ and reach the end zone at least once against this defense.

WR Randy Moss vs. Kansas City Chiefs: The projection for Moss is 6 catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. I’ll be surprised if it’s that low — the Pats have a major chip on their shoulder after coming so close to 19-0, and Brady will not let up if he gets a big lead. I’m thinking more along the lines of 8-140-2 for Moss, but we’ll see.

League 4

QB Ben Roethlisberger vs. Houston Texans: Hello, tasty matchup. This is one of the few times that the Steelers’ passing game will shine this season, even though Mario Williams is going to bear down on Big Ben just about every single time he drops back. I have every reason to believe that Roethlisberger will scorch the Texans’ secondary for something like 225 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RB Marshawn Lynch vs. Seattle Seahawks: Let’s be honest, the Seahawks aren’t as good as some people think they are. The Appalachian State Mountaineers could take their place in the NFC West and probably go 3-3. Lynch won’t light up the scoreboard or anything, but 20-90-1 seems reasonable and would be a pretty solid way to start the season.

RB Brian Westbrook vs. St. Louis Rams: Oh wow. This is easily the most mouth-watering matchup I have. The Rams have absolutely no defense to speak of, and Westbrook will touch the ball at least 25 times. Allow me to do the math for you, folks: #36 + zero defensive talent = jackpot.

Expect a wrapup on Tuesday morning.
