With the 11th pick in SG Top 50 Draft, AD Adkins selects…

Drew Brees, Quarterback, New Orleans Saints

Brees is a very good quarterback, and a smart, safe pick at 11. Brees completes a high number of his passes–sixty-seven percent– and has a strong Yards Per Attempt number to boot–6.8–despite a bad year offensively for the Saints. Don’t forget that Sean Peyton is no Bill Walsh. It’s hard for a great QB to succeed with a bad coach, but it’s not impossible.

Here’s a thought. Would the Chargers be that much better with Brees at the helm than with Phil Rivers? Obviously. But would they be good enough–or would they HAVE been–to reach the Biggest of Big Dances and perhaps even win the darn thing? Who knows. But it’s a safe bet. Despite my opinion, the Chargers did give the Pats a heck of a fight last year, and they also punked the Colts in the divisional round. Adding a great QB to that mold would certainly make them good enough to play with the Pats’ and the Colts’.

On the flip side… where would the Saints be without Brees? Yeah. I shuddered too.
