So, last week, Linda Hogan, wife of Hulk Hogan (real name: Terry Bollea) filed for divorce in Florida. Not completely out of nowhere, given Hulk’s precedent of being a total nutcase and a massive egomaniac. However, it follows on the heels of their son, Nick Hogan, getting into a car wreck. The thing is, this wasn’t your normal fender bender. According to reports, Nick was “drag racing” in his viper. Anyone that ever saw the Hogan’s TV Show, Hogan Knows Best, will recall Nick’s penchant and desire for going fast.

It gets worse though. Nick left the hospital after a short period, his condition not as serious as once thought. However, his passenger and friend, John Graziano, still hasn’t gotten out of his coma, and potentially never will. Note…the crash occured on August 27th. It’s November 26.

Fairly soon after, the Hogan’s hired a lawyer and Hulk was nearly sued because he apparently didn’t want to pay for Graziano’s care, even though there’s a very good chance Graziano’s family would win in court (easily.) Don’t worry though, once Hulk’s attorney tells him the difference in cost and negative PR (Hulk’s trying furiously to keep his show on the air with Vh1), he’ll shut his mouth and pay up.

That’s the backstory.

Here’s what I think:

This is a complete and utter PR stunt.

Example #1: Hulk has an enormously long history of blurring fact and faction, either for extending a wrestling storyline (the nWo angle in WCW during the mid-90s) or for his own personal PR gain. Doing something like this to rekindle good faith in Hulk (for Vh1 and possibly Vince McMahon and the WWE) and his family for marketing purposes isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Don’t forget, Hulk’s trying to get his daughter, Brooke Hogan, a record deal, despite her lack of real singing talent.

Example #2: Linda doesn’t even want a split. Linda knew that filing the paperwork would cause a media storm, she’s been married to Hulk since the Hulkamania days of the 1980s. She had to have known that something like this would occur.

I’m thinking Hulk wants to boost positive PR by straightening his son’s life out and then “saving” his marriage and family by “winning” back Linda. It works for the show, because it’s “reality” and people are interested in this story. Also, Vince wouldn’t hesitate to use this bit of “reality” and turn it into a storyline…perhaps for Wrestlemania in March?

Just a thought.
