Losing Vick Is No Big Deal
When Michael Vick decided to plead guilty yesterday, it instantly became column fodder for thousands of columnists. Problem is, most of those columnists are idiots.
I’m not going to go line by line and explain the problems with the articles. It’d take too long. But the main problem (at least with the MSNBC Sports.com writers) was that they all assumed this would hurt the Falcons.
I ask you, how?
I mean, Vick is a Quarterback. (Or was, whichever.) Quarterbacks typically, typically, are skilled at throwing the football. Vick? Not so much.
A good way to gauge a QB’s ability to throw the football is Completion Percentage. That shows how often the QB makes a throw and the pass is completed. Now, of course, some of that falls on the receiver and the ability of the defense, but still, it can be used in this instance.
Where do you think Vick ranked last season in CP?
I mean, if you only read the MSNBC garble, you’d probably think he was like top 10 or something, a real decisive and powerful QB.
Not so much. He CP’d 52.6, good for Lucky Number 29 in the NFL.
Oh, I mean, that’s only one year, it’s possible that before that he was much better!
Actually…no. In 2005, he was hardly any better, 55.3. That’d be 29th out of a possible 34. Montana-esque.
The trend doesn’t change. His career CP is an astounding (As In Astoundingly Bad) 53.8
What’s all that mean?
Losing Vick is certainly not as big a blow as some think.
